Self Portraits 2018-19
These paintings are manic self portraits. I use the word Tronie, a Dutch term referring to portraits that are more generic than of specific people. The series began as a bit of light hearted relief from my rather more serious and sober recent work of carefully painted rubbish. They still have similar concerns compositionally to my landscape and mandala like other paintings- but it has been a delight to get back to using colour more brazenly, especially with the fluorescents and aerosols .The more recent Selfies are generally titled Old Fart at Play
